When to use

Use Nano Banana 2.1 when you want Google's latest image quality at a low flat price. Call it with the OpenAI SDK's images.generate after swapping the base URL; data[0].b64_json holds the image.

When to use something else

For Google's higher-end model use Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image). Sizes above 1K are not offered yet.
